DB2 Database Administrator
Position Type: Hybrid
Hybrid Schedule: Onsite 2 days a week
Contract Length: 9 months + possible extensions
Position Overview:
This role is responsible for designing, maintaining, and supporting DB2 database applications with a focus on high availability, maximum performance, and 24x7 operational reliability. The position requires deep expertise in DB2 z/OS environments, database administration, performance tuning, and collaboration across technical and business teams to ensure seamless database operations.
Duties:
Design and maintain DB2 database applications for high availability and optimal performance.
Implement and support techniques and procedures to ensure 24x7 database reliability.
Provide production and test database support in a complex, high-transaction environment.
Perform SQL code reviews, performance monitoring, and tuning at the application database level.
Enforce DB2 security standards to ensure compliance and safeguard data.
Collaborate with DB2 systems programming staff on DSNZPARM settings management.
Develop, manage, and support DB2 stored procedures, triggers, and referential integrity.
Create and manage change requests, resolve service requests, and provide 24x7 on-call support.
Configure and support DB2 Connect access for users and distributed systems.
Partner with team members to drive technical decisions and provide direction.
Work with management to build and maintain project schedules.
Deliver database performance and tuning in collaboration with data center, technical operations, and software development teams.
Design, evaluate, and implement database backup and recovery strategies.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
Required Skills:
0+ years DB2 experience.
10+ years of DB2 z/OS Database Support.
10+ years working with z/OS DB2 12 (or higher) in production, high-transaction environments.
10+ years designing high availability 24x7 solutions and techniques.
10+ years managing large data stores.
10+ years with DB2 V10 utilities setup and execution.
10+ years of DB2 performance monitoring and tuning.
10+ years of data modeling expertise (logical and physical design).
10+ years with complex SQL coding and tuning.
10+ years in data warehouse design, including OLAP query solutions.
10+ years experience with DB2 attachments/interfaces such as DRDA and DB2 Connect.
10+ years working with DB2 tools including QMF and IBM tools (Data Studio, OPTIM Workload Query Tuner, File Manager, Tivoli OMEGAMON).
10+ years working with IBM DB2 tools including Administration Tool, Automation Tool, Explain, and Query Monitor.
10+ years of z/OS Mainframe skills, including TSO & ISPF, JCL, DFSORT and/or ICETOOL, REXX, and z/OS Utilities.
Preferred Skills:
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize workflow and projects.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
DB2 V9 or V10 Certification.
IMS Database experience.
Experience with IMS Database Utilities (IBM, BMC, NEON, etc.).
Experience with ETL tools such as InfoSphere, Informatica, etc.
